Paradoxically, it could be the case that the best entity/teacher to teach you AI is GenAI itself. It is not that there are not good-quality resources on the Wide Web; it is just that, in my experience, the best fine-tuned tutorials were generated by AI itself.
I will quickly list some of the renowned courses/materials online, and comment (quite humbly, I am in no stance to exercise informed critique) on them respectively. I will comment from a developer reference point. Also, from my own reference as someone who had had extensive math education.
- Andrew Ng et. al, Deep Learning
In its five courses, this Coursera specialization provides a logical walkthrough of the Deep Learning evolution in terms of time and technology. Still, one has to put some effort contextualizing and prioritizing. I have chatted with many who have done these courses, each had to squirm their own way through.
- Andrej Karpathy, Neural Networks, Zero to Here
One of the gems of the modern internet. Andrej Karpathy is known to excel at conveying knowledge. Requires little to no math background, just basic knowledge of Gradients and Matrices.
- Alan Edelman and Steven Johnson, Matrix Calculus For Machine Learning And Beyond
Very good as a foundation layer for those who struggle with the mathematical intuition.
- Kaggle Learn, Intro to Deep Learning
In the multi-steps tutorials made by Kaggle, one can see tangible results of their own work in minutes. Sometimes, learners can sense that they are traversing a (random?) forest, as some steps are left for the learner's inititative.
This course is highly comprehensive, it offers a step-by-step notational learning experience.
- 3Blue1Brown, Neural Networks
This youtube channel is known for its unmatched explanations. The playlist spanns the different models and knowledge pieces you need to acquire before you try training first-hand.
So, what is the problem, if all these courses are great and informative?
I reckon it is a general problem in Tech Edu, mainly because of the AI structural dominance in terms of producing knowledge. GenAI now can provide self-paced tutorials for you.
Is it a problem, to start with? This is a philosophical question, for sure.
In any case, Andrew Ng is launching a new open-source course, it is nice to have some up-to-date account of the current AI Edu state.
